We’re shaking things up a bit. This time MTF performers ask MTF composers to the dance… or shall we say, Salon. Join us on March 8th as we start a new tradition: The Sadie Hawkins Salon. Performers are given the chance to collaborate with writers of their choice on a new project, debut a new piece, or sing something from a writer’s songbook.
As with all MTF Salons, in addition to our featured performers (who “asked out” their writers) there will be an open mic aspect to the evening in which performers are encouraged to showcase writers’ new works.
The Factory Salon is an informal open mic night for new musical theatre songs. Writers and performers are encouraged to showcase their new works from 8:00 pm to midnight. This is a great chance to show the Factory what you’ve been working on, or just to hear brand new songs from up-and-coming writers.
“I remember when Lin-Manuel Miranda rushed into Writer’s Block at 54 Below around midnight. He apologized in advance for the song he thought he might have just finished, then pulled out a folded up piece of paper and played ‘My Shot.’ There were maybe 40 of us in the room, and we all knew musical theatre would never be the same again. Factory Salons are the new ‘Room Where It Happens.’ Every month you can hear the latest works of inspired genius from some of the hottest composers working in NYC today; the songs and their writers that will revolutionize the Broadway of tomorrow.”
