4×15 Round:33

February 18 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The 4×15 Series showcases 15-minute staged segments from four new musicals. Each team receives 5 hours of rehearsal to workshop their piece.

Join us for the next round of 4×15! Four new musicals will present 15 minutes of fully-staged materials for a public audience. This is a great opportunity to see what development of these new projects looks like at an early stage, and to hear from the authors and creative teams about their developmental process!

LE FAY

Le Fay is a queer druid puppet opera centered on the witch Morgan Le Fay of Celtic legend. In this excerpt, a young Morgan meets a young Elaine (Lancelot’s future wife) on the mystical isle of Avalon.

QUEENS OF SOLOMON

King Solomon was the richest and wisest king of his time. With 700 wives and 300 concubines, the Bible states that “his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God” As a result, the kingdom was eventually divided and Solomon’s genius turned to madness.

But who were these women? And are they really the villains, victims, or heroines? This retelling of King Solomon mixes the modern rhythm and language of rap & R&B with the ancient sights & sounds of the Middle East to explore the roles, identities, & relationship of women as wives, mothers, & Queens. The lines are blurred between villain and hero(ines), wisdom & foolishness, male & female. For as Solomon says “there is nothing new under the sun”.

RECAP

A Korean-American mashup of Groundhog Day and Can’t Hardly Wait, ReCap follows Yuna and Sam from their high school graduation to the blowout post-grad party mandated by teen media… and follows them again, and again, and again, as the pop-culture-savvy girls immediately realize they’re in a time loop and try to figure out what life-altering lesson they must learn to get out of it.

ANTIOCH MASS

Antioch Mass is a choral music theater piece that explores the narrative of Simon Peter, torn between his love for the church and his love for a man—Jesus. The ritual uses the traditional catholic mass along with a collage of texts ranging from the words of Langston Hughes and Assata Shakur to encouraging messages from sympathy cards and first-hand accounts of the HIV/AIDS crisis from a queer black perspective. Featuring a community choir, the music weaves between traditional choral music and contemporary gospel music to create a unifying sonic experience reminding us all of the divine love we share.
