For one night only, Musical Theatre Factory presents She Said, a new solo Me Too musical. The event is free and open to the public on July 8 at 7pm in the White Box at 440 Studios. She Said features book, music and lyrics by Lily Ali-Oshatz, piano arrangements by Mark Galinovsky and direction by Madeline Wall.
She Said chronicles one person’s experience with rape and her choice to report the crime. Using poetry, storytelling and original music, this one person musical is a call to action and a reminder that our laws cannot be changed until we change our culture. Only then can we begin to hope.
Over two years in the making, She Said has been workshopped at the Zero to Fierce Festival in Arcata, California, Musical Theatre Factory, Theater for the New City, The Tank and the #HealMeToo Festival at IRT. The team that brought The Extraordinary Fall of the Four-Legged Woman to the FRIGID, FringeNYC and Fringe Encore series now presents this new full length incarnation of She Said.
Lily Ali-Oshatz (She/her/hers) is a queer Brooklyn-based theatre maker and member of Musical Theatre Factory. She is part of the inaugural class of The New Studio on Broadway for Musical Theatre at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she also studied in The Experimental Theatre Wing. Her first musical, The Extraordinary Fall of the Four-Legged Woman, was chosen for the Fringe Encore series Off-Broadway at SoHo Playhouse after a successful run at FringeNYC 2016. She collaborates often with Mark Galinovsky and their work has been presented at Joe’s Pub, Club Cumming, and Don’t Tell Mama. Selections from She Said have been shared at the Zero to Fierce Festival in Arcata, California, Musical Theatre Factory, Theater for the New City, The Tank and the #HealMeToo Festival at IRT. She also writes original content for her Drag King persona, Troy Next Door, who struggles to learn that masculinity is indeed so fragile.
Mark Galinovsky is a composer, music director, pianist, and vocal coach. His recent credits include The Lightning Thief (Theatreworks/Lucille Lortel Theatre), The Extraordinary Fall of the Four-Legged Woman (Soho Playhouse), The Buddy Holly Story (Forestburgh Playhouse), A Little Night Music (NYU Players Club), and Sweeney Todd (Piper Theatre). Other organizations he has worked with include Broadway Youth Ensemble, Davenport Theatrical, Village Light Opera Group, NYMF, The Secret Theatre, and Untitled Theatre #61. Mark has a BM in Piano Performance from NYU Steinhardt and is an MFA candidate in Music Direction at Penn State.
Madeline Wall (she/her/hers) is a Seattle-born director and designer. She received her BFA in Film and Television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her most recent directing credits include Measure for Measure (Experimental Bitch Presents), Jack of Cups (The Flea Theatre), and The Extraordinary Fall of the Four-Legged Woman (Soho Playhouse). Her work as a filmmaker has been featured in The Seattle International Film Festival, The Student Academy Awards, as well as winning her multiple awards for production design and editing. She is a member of the producing company Experimental Bitch Presents (EBP).
She Said stars Lily Ali-Oshatz accompanied by Mark Galinovsky.
